Lafayette's Bicentennial 2024

Members and Friends of the Veterans of the Seventh Regiment,

Please check out this 2-minute promotional video about the Bicentennial Commemoration of Lafayette’s visit to the United States which starts in New York on August 16, 2024, and goes to September 2025.  Your President is on the Bicentennial Committee for the events in New York, and the plan is for the Armory to host an event on the Bicentennial Weekend in New York on Saturday, August 17, 2024.  I will keep you advised of how the planning is proceeding. As you know the Seventh Regiment was Lafayette’s Honor Guard during his visit to America and had a very special relationship to the Marquis. It was Lafayette who gave the Seventh Regiment the name “Guard Nationale” or National Guard, the first military unit in the US to receive that name.  Some of you may recall the wonderful portrait of him hanging in the Commanders Reception Room on the 1st floor of the Armory opposite George Washington.  Friend Forever! I will keep you informed of events being held in New York City from August 16 -18 , 2024.

Best,

Tom Principe, President Veterans of the Seventh Regiment
